Meet Michael Yu, one of the earliest students of HanOpera and a true testament to the power of dedication and professional guidance. Under the mentorship of Dr. Yixuan Han since the age of 10, Michael has transformed from a boy-soprano to a remarkable baritone, showcasing his talent and versatility every step of the way.
With Dr. Han’s scientific and tailored approach to vocal training, Michael has excelled at every stage of his vocal development. From winning solo competitions in his school district and across Texas to making waves on the international stage, Michael’s achievements speak volumes about his commitment and Dr. Han’s guidance.
In 2023, Michael won the first place of Texoma area at the prestigious NATS in High School category, then earning him a well-deserved place in the national level. And this year, he once again emerged victorious in the Texoma region, securing his spot in the national level. None of this would have been possible without Dr. Han’s meticulous mentorship and the unwavering support of his parents.
As Michael embarks on his journey to the NATS national competition, we have no doubt that he will continue to shine brightly and achieve even greater success. Join us in cheering him on as he represents HanOpera with pride and passion on the national stage!
Four HanOpera students have advanced in the NATS Texoma area competition: Ava Cui advanced to the semi-finals in the high school girl’s division, Michael Yu advanced to the finals in the high school boy’s division, and Alan Csallner and Molly Li advanced to the semi-finals in the children’s division. The TEXOMA Tri-State League gathers the finest vocalists from Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, making the competition more challenging. This advancement is equivalent to surpassing approximately 90% of vocalists from these three states. Best wishes to them for even greater achievements in the future!
In the just-concluded NATS competition in the DFW District, Molly Li from HanOpera was awarded second prize in the Children’s Group 1, while Kevin Dong received third prize in the Children’s Group 2! Congratulations to them!
As one of the most prestigious vocal competitions in the United States, NATS is widely recognized for its professionalism and challenging nature. Let’s cheer them on together and look forward to more outstanding achievements!

Alan started learning vocal music with Dr. Han at the age of 5, receiving systematic training in HanOpera, which includes professional vocal technique training, music theory education, stage performance training, and international vocal competition training. Over the past few years, he has made a name for himself in many competitions, including multiple awards in the HAL LEONARD VOCAL COMPETITION. At just 9 years old, he once again made us proud by receiving an HONORARY MENTION in the Vienna International Vocal Competition, competing against over two thousand participants from around the world. We believe he will achieve even more success in the future.
HanOpera student Michael Yu (age 15), won 1st place in the NATS Texoma Region 2023 Musical Theatre Audition (MT 4A). NATS was founded in 1944 and is the largest association of teachers of singing in the world.
As the 1st place winner, Michael will be moving on to the NSA National YouTube Round which leads to the live semifinals and finals this summer in San Diego, California!
Michael has been a student at HanOpera for five years and comes from a musical family (both his mom and dad are excellent classical musicians themselves.) He credits Dr. Yixuan Han, artistic director of HanOpera, with propelling him to the next level. “I was really having trouble with Italian songs – I just couldn’t handle the different pronunciations, for example “r’s” and I got confused with my “o’s” and “u’s”. Through Dr. Han’s training, I improved a lot and became confident onstage,” Michael says.
HanOpera also allowed Michael to make new friends with other musically-inclined students. “I really enjoyed making friends at HanOpera and performing onstage for many people,” says Michael. “It really is an amazing experience and Dr. Han is one of the best voice teachers out there. Without her, I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today,” he adds.
HanOpera is a premier vocal training studio in the north Texas area led by Dr. Yixuan Han.
